How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t work in your department?

I lead a team that builds the platforms other teams at Cognitiv leverage to serve our customers.

Can you share a bit about your background and how you landed at Cognitv?

I began my career as a Biologist, specializing in insect ecology and behavior, which provided me with a deep understanding of data-driven research and analytical thinking. When I transitioned into the tech world, my background helped me find a unique niche at the intersection of Data Science and Engineering. This has proven essential in my role at Cognitiv, where we tackle complex challenges that span Science, Engineering, and Customer Service, often with significant overlap. My ability to navigate these overlapping areas has been vital in driving impactful solutions for our clients.

What aspect of Cognitiv makes you proud to work here?

Cognitiv’s products are real. Plenty of startups have grand visions but no serious ability to execute those visions. From the day I joined, Cognitiv had a coherent plan to implement our vision, and the success of our products is a testament to that.

Can you share an accomplishment or project you are most proud of from your time at Cognitiv? Tell us about it.

I’m particularly proud of the Creative Optimization project. It was incredible to use deep learning models to correctly predict the best creative message for the user, time, and place and see it drive real lift improvements.

Who on #TeamCognitiv inspires you the most, and why?

My team. I have repeatedly presented them with incredibly complex challenges; without fail, they rise to the occasion. Their ability to tackle complex problems with creativity, collaboration, and a relentless commitment to finding solutions is inspiring and helps us deliver exceptional results for our clients.

What advice would you give someone just starting their career in our industry?

Prioritize building a broad base of knowledge. The ability to see the bigger picture is invaluable in our industry, and the best way to achieve that perspective is by gaining diverse experiences and understanding different facets of the field. Professionals who can connect the dots across various disciplines bring immense value and are often the ones who drive innovation and growth.  Always remain curious.

Describe your ideal weekend.

Between work and activities for my four kids, my life is hectic.  An ideal weekend for me would be relaxing at home with my family.

Let’s end with a fun fact! Tell us something unique about you – maybe your Astrology sign, a talent, favorite vacation spot, etc.

Despite a close call as a child, the Oregon coast remains one of my favorite vacation spots. Exploring tidepools at low tide, rain or shine, is always fantastic.
